REWOLF는 꽃을 거꾸로 천장에 매달아 전등으로 재해석한 조명 작품이다. 작품명은 꽃을 의미하는 FLOWER의 철자를 반전시킨 것으로, 형태뿐 아니라 개념적으로도 ‘뒤집힘’이라는 발상에서 출발한다. 일반적으로 아래로 피어나는 꽃의 방향성을 전복해, 빛이 천장에서 흘러내리는 구조로 설정함으로써 기존 꽃 전등에 대한 인식을 새롭게 전환한다.
꽃잎은 실제 식물의 복잡한 형태를 그대로 재현하기보다, 톱니바퀴처럼 반복되는 단순한 모듈로 환원되었다. 각 모듈은 꽃잎의 길이와 크기에 변화를 두며 연속적으로 나열되어, 규칙성과 변주의 리듬을 동시에 형성한다. 이를 통해 자연의 유기적 형태가 질서 있는 구조로 재구성되며, 조형적 완결성을 갖춘다.
또한 빛의 발현 방식 역시 기존 꽃 전등과 차별화된다. 빛은 꽃잎 사이에서 퍼져 나오는 것이 아니라, 암술과 수술에 해당하는 중심부를 길고 강조된 기둥 형태로 드러내며 그 끝을 통해 아래로 쏟아지는 듯한 인상을 만든다. 각 기둥의 말단에는 원형의 빛이 맺히듯 투사되어, 공간에 섬세한 시각적 포인트를 부여한다.
결과적으로 REWOLF는 꽃의 형태를 단순화하고 모듈화하는 과정을 통해 자연의 이미지를 구조적 오브제로 전환하고, 이를 천장에서 내려오는 빛의 흐름으로 표현한 작품이다. 이는 고급스럽고 장식적인 샹들리에의 이미지를 연상시키며, 조명이 공간의 분위기와 인상을 형성하는 중심 요소로 작동할 수 있음을 보여준다.
REWOLF is a lighting installation that reinterprets the form of a flower by suspending it upside down from the ceiling. The title itself is derived from reversing the spelling of the word FLOWER, reflecting the conceptual inversion that underpins the work.
Rather than replicating the organic complexity of flower petals, their forms are simplified into repetitive, gear-like modules. Variations in the length and scale of each petal module create a rhythmic sequence, allowing repetition and transformation to coexist within a unified structure. Through this process, the natural form of a flower is translated into a modular and architectural composition.
The source of light is also deliberately repositioned. Unlike conventional floral lamps where light radiates from the petals, REWOLF emphasizes the pistil and stamen, elongating them into prominent vertical elements. Light appears to pour downward through these extended cores, creating the impression of illumination flowing from the ceiling. Circular pools of light projected at the ends of each column further enhance the visual depth and spatial effect.
Ultimately, REWOLF aims to abstract and modularize the form of a flower, presenting it as a chandelier-like object that evokes elegance and refinement. By transforming botanical imagery into a descending flow of light, the work explores how lighting can function not only as illumination but as a sculptural presence that defines the atmosphere of a space.
